An international field will contest Equi-Trek Aldon International Horse Trials next weekend (March 18-20 ) where more than 600 entries have been received across three days of competition.
Some of the world’s best event horses will be in action as they begin their campaigns for the season ahead as well as many top riders including Andrew Nicholson who will resume eventing following a period on the sidelines after he was injured in a fall last year.
Stephen Moore of sponsors Equi-Trek Shaftesbury is delighted to be the event’s title sponsor. He said: “It is an absolutely superb event run extremely well by a highly experienced team of organizers. We sponsored for the first time last year and had such a great experience that we decided to sponsor again this year. It offers the perfect opportunity for people to enjoy the countryside while watching some great sporting action.”
Among the horses entered are Jock Paget’s 2013 Badminton winner Clifton Promise, Jonelle Price’s Cloud Dancer II, winner of the CIC3* at Blenheim Palace International, Pippa Funnell’s 2015 European Championships partner Sandman 7, and the 2014 Badminton winner Paulank Brockagh, ridden by Sam Griffiths.
Classes range from BE100 to advanced intermediate, and include a CIC*, an open intermediate Under 21 Young Rider Trial and a Pony Trial.
Organiser Tessa Mackenzie-Green said: “We are thrilled with the entries and delighted that we are continuing our association with Equi-Trek Shaftesbury. “Aldon is such a well established event which is now in its 37th year and we are grateful for the continuing support we receive each year from international riders right through to those riding at the grass roots levels.”
The showjumping action will take place in arenas situated in front of a variety of tradestands where food is also available. The cross country takes place in a parkland setting with many jumps in full view.
The event is run on aid of local charities including St Margaret’s Hospice and the Lifeboats. Entry is £10 per car to include a programme.
Aldon is situated on A37 south of Yeovil at the 30 mile limit. Post code BA22 9TA. Grid reference ST555150.
